Whale Coast Conservation (WCC) se slagspreuk op hul embleem is onlangs gewysig na “Caring for your environment”. “Dit is gedoen om dít wat Whale Coast Conservation doen, in net vier woorde te beskryf,” sê dr Anina Lee, Kommunikasie-bestuurder: WCC. Haar gereelde WCC Nuusbrief wat via e-pos versprei word, is telkens met baie interessante inligting en kleurfoto’s gevul. April se Nuusbrief was ook weer propvol van interessanthede met verwysing na natuur- en seemariene bewaring.

Onder andere is daar ‘n artikel oor die bekendstelling van YEP (Youth Environment Programme), met enkele foto’s van Gansbaai Primêr daarin: die skoolhoof, Tommy Volkwyn, hulle bekende Marimba Band en ‘n groepfoto tydens die bekendstelling waarby Gansbaai Academia, Gansbaai Primêr en Laerskool Gansbaai betrokke is.

Aprilmaand se aanbieding het oor die Afrika Pikkewyn gehandel, met Gabrielle (Gabby) Harris van uShaka Sea World as die spreker. Sy het in die algemeen oor die Afrika pikkewynspesies se bewaring en navorsing gepraat. Meimaand se spreker op Dinsdag, 19 Mei 2015 om 17:30 by die Green House buite Hermanus is dr Serge Raemaekers. Sy gesprekstema is “Economic and Social Consequences of Abalone Poaching”. 

What is WCC?

WCC is a membership-based organisation, established in 2001 and registered as a Non-Government Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation. A Board of voluntary Directors determines policy and direction. WCC employs a fulltime manager and the equivalent of 6 fulltime staff. Its area of operation encompasses the “Cape Whale Coast” that stretches from Rooiels in the west to Quoin Point in the east. Vision: The unique biodiversity of the Cape Whale Coast environment is valued and protected to ensure its wonders never cease.

Mission: To raise awareness of the unique and biodiverse natural resources of the Cape Whale Coast region and to promote sustainable communities.
