The Johannesburg Getaway Show was held at the Proticket Dome from 28 - 30 August this year. Cape Whale Coast has a stand here every year and this year was no exception. Glenda Kitley, Adinda Jantjies and Eric Davalala (the whale crier) attended. It was an exceptionally good show this year and we were busy from the time the doors opened on Friday morning until just after lunch on Sunday when it quietened down.

At the Cape Whale Coast stand we interacted with over 1,000 people. It is obvious that more and more people are wanting to travel domestically for various reasons. Although out area is reasonably well known there are people who wanted to know more about it but the majority wanted to know “What’s new?” Many had already planned their holiday to the area and thus wanted more information on the various activities and other told us it on their bucket list. We had two lucky draws on the stand - one for a shark cage dive generously donated by White Shark Projects and the other one was for a hamper including Honey liqueur and  a bottle of honey. The elderly gentleman who won the hamper was over the moon - he went to the guesthouse where we stayed to collect it as he had already left the show by the time we did the draw. As usual we also participated in the Spin and Win. There were a number of Cape Whale Coast hampers for the various “spins”. Eric was there everytime and blew his horn and a photos was taken with him and the winner which was immediately distributed on social media.

Although it is primarily a show for the public we made a number of contacts - travel agents and tour operators as well. It is also an opportunity to network with other tourism agencies. Just as an aside - a lady told me, when she heard I was from Gansbaai that she worked for ABSA many years ago and had dealings with a Mr Basie Wessels but she is sure I wouldn’t know him! Well surprise surprise! Many of you will recognize the couple on the photo - always nice to see people we know as well. (Pictures by Glenda Kitley)
