The Delegated Authority in the Fishing Rights Allocation Process FRAP2015/16, as appointed by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), Mr Senzeni Zokwana, has published the provisional list of applicants in the Netfish Fishery, which includes Beach Seine/Treknet and Gillnet.

The draft General Publish Reasons (GPR) and the applicants list are appended hereto and are available on the department’s website (www.daff.gov.za).

Members of the public are invited to comment on the list by contacting the toll-free anonymous tip-off line on 0800-203-785. 

Comments may be submitted either telephonically on 0800-203-785 or via email to netfish@whistleblowing. co.za or deposited in hard copy form in a sealed envelope into a dedicated netfish provisional list comment box in the Customer Service Centre, Foretrust Building, Cape Town.

Members of the public are encouraged to provide detailed information should they have any objection regarding an applicant who appears on the list.

The public should note that this is not a final list and therefore not open for appeal.

The comment period will be for 14 days, commencing on Wednesday 20 July until Tuesday 2 August 2016. Any submissions or comments received will be duly considered and, where necessary, incorporated into the final list, which the Department intends to publish on 5 August 2016, whereupon the Department will open the Appeals process for the Netfish fishery.

The Department has started with the adjudication process in the next sector, namely Patagonian Toothfish. 

Further, the Delegated Authority hereby permits all current netfish exemption holders to continue fishing operations until the publication of the final decision list on the Netfish sector.
