Dit mag miskien manne met duur “speelgoed” wees, maar dit is duidelik dat daar behoorlik kopgehou moet word met die vlieg van radiobeheerde vliegtuie. Verlede Sondag het Johan Burmeister, Jan le Roux, André Barkhuizen en sy seun, Lean Barkhuizen by Groeneweide Kwekery se netjiese grasveld bymekaargekom.

Die lugruim is behoorlik met vliegtuie deurklief. Van die spesifikasies is die volgende: die vliegtuie weeg so tussen 4kg en 8kg; dit het ‘n vlerkspan van tussen 1.6m en 2m; die enjins gebruik methanol/nitromethane en ‘n kasteroliemengsel as brandstof; die radios is 4- en 6-kanaal met frekwensies van 35Mhz en 2.4 gGhz. Renier Faasen van Walker Bay Radio Flyers het die volgende inligting oor hulle Radio Vliegklub in Hermanus verskaf:

"Walker Bay Radio Flyers was founded about 8 years ago. It is currently a South African Model Aircraft Association (SAMAA) affiliated flying club for Radio Controlled model aircraft, with a dedicated flying field situated close to Fisherhaven on the Karwyderskraal road in the Overstrand district of the Western Cape.

The club can also help with training and advice to newcomers to the sport. Both fixed wing aircraft as well as helicopters are flown at the club. The club currently has about 70 active membersg. Model aircraft range from electric park flyers to large petrol powered aerobatic planes, helicopters and gliders. The flying field has two tarred 120 x 5.5 meter runways, with 30 meters of run-off space at the ends."
