At 17h00 (Sunday, 19th May) NSRI Hermanus volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from Police to recover an unidentified body found floa-ting in the Fisherhaven Lagoon near to Hermanus.
The body had been discovered floating in the lagoon by an off duty Policeman who had raised the alarm.
NSRI Hermanus volunteer sea rescue duty crew towed the sea rescue craft LE JENMAR II which was launched on scene after Police had completed forensic investigations and forensic photographs on the scene and the body of an unidentified adult male was recovered onto the sea rescue craft and brought to shore where the body was handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.
It is unknown the length of time that the body had been in the water and the circumstances that led to the body being in the water are unknown. Police have opened an inquest docket.
