It appears that the Democratic Alliance can rely on substantial support from voters residing in the black and coloured communities of the Hangklip-Kleinmond area during the upcoming National and Provincial elections on May 7. 

About 40 Overstrand municipal councillors and branch committee members participated in an outreach on Saturday 29 March 2014 during which they visited the Mooiuitsig community in Betty’s Bay, the Overhills informal settlement in Kleinmond as well as Riemvasmaak, a relatively new low-cost housing development. They also reached out to shoppers in the Kleinmond business centre.

Pamphlets were distributed and t-shirts handed to staunch supporters. The group ran out of the latter very quickly. In order not to disappoint enthusiastic members of the community, some of the visitors even took off their own t-shirts to help meet the demand.

Good spirit prevailed all over and at some of the stops, members of the community came forward to encouraged their fellow-residents on the public address system to vote for the DA.

Overstrand Mayor Nicolette Botha-Guthrie, who led the outreach, said the effort had been a great success and more are being planned to other areas of the municipality over the next few weeks.
