On Tuesday the 16th June 2015, a crowd gathered at the Masakhane Sports grounds to witness the 1st DA Youth Overstrand Youth Day Soccer Tournament in Masakhane. The tournament was contested between 4 teams with 2 semi finals before a 3rd/4th place match and of course the final. Even with the weather not behaving at its best throughout the day, a good crowd was on hand to witness some amazing skill and teamwork throughout.

After the excitement of the 1st matches, the nerves really set in for the crowd and players alike for the final. The sun even decided to join as the teams made their way onto the field for what proved to be the match of the day between the Young Killers and the Peace Makers. Both teams had chances to take the lead before the Peace Makers took the lead. They led 1-0 at halftime. With time running out a nervous crowd watched in amazement as the Young Killers equalised!

Their massive following could not contain their excitement and ran onto the field to celebrate alongside the team. However, their joy was fairly short lived as the Peace Makers managed to pull the rabbit out of the hat and scored what proved to be the winning goal not long before the end of the match. Well done to all those who participated.

The day was held to celebrate the youth of the Overstrand and South Africa as a whole and judging by the smiles on the faces of the youngsters who attended, it was a great success.
