All males get yourselves circumcised
As you know HIV affects everyone. If you are not positive, you know of someone who is positive or someone that have died of HIV related issues. Research is an on-going process in all medical fields and HIV is one of the biggest diseases we are fighting a battle with. Researchers try to find new ways of fighting this disease.
The same applies to cervical cancer. The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) has now been accepted as the cause of cervical cancer and genital warts in women. It is accepted as a sexual transmitted disease (STD).
HOW DOES THE HIV VIRUS SPREAD
• Unprotected sexual contact
• Direct blood contact, including injection - drug needles, blood transfusion, accidents in health care settings or certain blood products.
• Mother to baby (before or during birth, or through breast milk).
We are not just trying to find a cure we are trying to prevent the disease from spreading.
Studies conducted; show that men that were circumcised have a lower prevalence of HIV infection than uncircumcised men.
Trials have shown a reduction of 60% in the risk of HIV transmission in circumcised men.
MMC (Medical Male Circumcision) is now viewed as an integral part of male sexual reproductive health service.
It may be performed for medical, cultural or religious reasons.

Who can come for MMC?
• Age group: All men between 15 – 49 yrs.
MMC is also available for children younger than 14yrs. These services are available at our local hospital. For more information contact your nearest clinics. We also do appeal to all parents to send their young boys for circumcision.

Procedures are done every Friday at the Hermanus Provincial Hospital.
A mass circumcision will be done on the 28th of June in Hermanus Hospital and at Stanford clinic.

The procedure itself takes 20min.
A sick letter will be issued if needed
Pain medication will also be issued
