The Overstrand Municipality shares the concern of residents about the beautification of the R43 and entrance to Hermanus.
These issues were taken up at several levels by the Ward Councillor, Ms Lianda Beyers-Cronjé, and municipal officials with the project management team and the construction company Vuzela Construction and from that the following transpired:
• The paving of certain portions of the median traffic island is necessary because of traffic safety and visibility.
• A total of 26 White Pear trees (Apodytes dimidiata) will be planted between Schulphoek Road and Malva Street in Mt Pleasant.
• Vuzela Construction in collaboration with Lauren Rainbird, the Overstrand Municipality’s horticulturist, will also plant water wise and evergreen shrubs along the entire new palisade fence in Mt Pleasant.
• Ground covers will be planted on the retaining walls next to the mountain slopes. 
“We are limited to what we can do about the greening of the entrance to Hermanus by current budget constraints and we have to abide by road safety regulations, but we will always keep an eye open for more opportunities to enhance the appearance of the road as main entrance to Hermanus,” says Cllr Beyers-Cronjé.
