Grootbos Wins Gold for Community Development ...
We're excited to announce that Grootbos won a GOLD award for Community Development at the World Travel Market.
At Grootbos, horse-riding is one of the many activities included in your stay, along with walks, hikes, a guided 4x4 flower safari, visits to the beach reserve and cave tours. The whole family can take part, thanks to a yard of steeds ranging from adorable little ponies through to horses.
Grootbos is home to over 800 pant species, over the splendour of 2500 hectares of wilderness. 6 of the species were actually discovered at Grootbos! Sean Privett and Heiner Lutzeyer dedicated time to recording the reserve in order to document 410 of the 800 species in their guide, The Grootbos Field Guide. Each species is beautifully photographed, accompanied by a full description, flowering time, common name, its conservation status and more detail. The guide is available from Grootbos reception or by order and is highly recommended whilst staying at Grootbos. We guide you through some of the more recognisable fynbos species that you are most likely to see along the riding path.
Horse riding at Grootbos is suitable for anyone, whether you’re a complete novice or a more experienced rider. Our 18 horses in the stable on our reserve are well exercised and expertly trained, while all of our guides have years of experience in dealing with these noble animals.
