A New Way to Explore 4.6 Billion Years of Earth’s History

The third Earth Age Display in the southern Cape was officially launched at De Hoop Nature Reserve on 22 August 2026.

Developed by the Overberg Geoscientists Group (OGG) in collaboration with the De Hoop Collection, this interactive educational display takes visitors on a journey through 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history. Key geological, biological and anthropological events are presented in an accessible and engaging way, with QR codes providing further information.

Designed for everyone from curious visitors and children to geology enthusiasts, the display adds another fascinating educational experience to the remarkable natural and archaeological treasures of De Hoop.
