Napier, Grootberg Conservancy Hike

Another wonderful day out in the veld! 26 enthusiastic hikers gathered in the charming town of Napier, just as the church bell rang at 8 o'clock, setting the tone for a memorable hike. The skies were overcast, and the threat of rain loomed, but nothing could dampen our spirits as we ascended Grootberg's misty peak.

The first 2000m climb had everyone focused and quiet as we made our way to the lookout point. The mist raced up the mountainside to greet us, leaving us with a view that could only be described as... misty. Onward to Sopieshoogte, where we enjoyed a well-deserved brunch and clearer skies. Special thanks to Jill for the delightful story about the farmers trekking to Nagmaal, with a "Sopie" to celebrate their ascent.

We descended into the valley, now basking in the sunshine, where the beautiful fynbos, blooming Ericas, and remaining King proteas gave us a stunning backdrop. Busy sugarbirds and watchful hawks added to the magic of the conservancy. Grateful to the local farmers for sharing their land with us, we made our way back up the mountain, a challenge that felt far easier in thought than action!

After a group photo and warm goodbyes, we walked away with another unforgettable memory of hiking in the veld. Here's to many more adventures to come!
