Last Hike of 2024
Our final hike for 2024 took us from Storm Street in De Kelders to the Harbour in Gansbaai.
Summer is here, and beach hikes are back! Join us for our next adventure on Saturday, 9 November - a beautiful 7.5 km circular hike along the seafront from Brekvis Baai, Vermont, through the Hoek van die Berg Private Nature Reserve to the Hawston Cross and back. This easy, flat route (rated 3/10 in difficulty and fitness level) follows single-track sand paths above the high tide, with a few minor scrambles near the water’s edge.
Highlights Along the Way:
• Unique sights, like the fairly new whale carcass
• Sand and dune fynbos
• Various birds and occasional otters or duikers
• The lovely Kandelaar gardens
Details to Note:
Meet: 08:00 at the Armadilo parking area, across from 10 Armadilo Street, Vermont, Hermanus.
Leaders: Schalk and Aronel du Toit – a big thank you for their preparations!
Bring: Sunblock, good walking shoes, walking sticks, snacks, and drinks for a halfway break.
Stay alert for puff adders and stick to the paths. Don’t forget your camera, and maybe a towel for a refreshing swim at Brekvis Baai! We hope you’ll share plenty of photos.
