Every effort is being made to ensure that the installation and commissioning of emergency generators at 11 critical water and wastewater facilities across the Overstrand is completed by the end of March 2024. Procuring and installing of these back-up generators was partially made possible by the Western Cape Government’s reserve fund to stabilise essential municipal services, such as water supply and wastewater treatment, during load-shedding.
A progress report is published monthly to keep residents informed of progress on the project. To date, the project cost is R10 888 382, including VAT. The Municipality is contributing to the project for the amount over and above the Provincial Emergency Load-shedding Relief Grant, including additional generators at the Stanford boreholes and the Baardskeerdersbos Water Treatment Plant. Delivery of the Baardskeerdersbos generator is still being awaited. The other ten generators at the Mossel River sewerage pump station, Kleinmond Tennis Courts sewerage pump station, Kleinmond water treatment plant, Klipgat spring pumpstation, De Kelders water treatment plant, Pearly Beach water treatment plant, Gansbaai wastewater treatment plant, Palmiet River raw water pumpstation in Kleinmond, the Kraaibosch Dam bulk raw water pumpstation in Gansbaai and the Stanford boreholes are operational.
