The Moffat Community Hall in Mount Pleasant has undergone a much-needed upgrade and is now officially open for community use.
Improvements to the facility include a newly renovated floor and stage, upgraded toilet facilities, fresh paintwork, and enhancements to the kitchen area - including a new fridge, gas burner and freezer. Further upgrades in the pipeline, including new kitchen basins and a roof repair.
To officially mark the reopening, Overstrand Executive Mayor Archie Klaas conducted a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the hall on 25 August 2025, as part of his 100-day milestone in office. He was joined by Ward 4 Councillor and Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) for Community Services Ronald Nutt, and MMC for Municipal Public Safety Andrew Komani.
He also shared exciting news for the Mount Pleasant community: plans are underway for a stadium upgrade at the local sporting field, expected to begin later this year. Additionally, a shaded area for the taxi rank is being planned to enhance commuter convenience.
Mayor Klaas encouraged the community to take pride in their public facilities, keep the area clean, and continue using spaces like Moffat Hall to build a strong and united community.
"These facilities belong to the people. Let’s use them to make memories, celebrate milestones, and grow together as a community. The Municipality is also ready to support greening efforts through tree planting and further beautification of the area,” he said.
