YES! Overstrand Libraries are open - but with strict provisos

Having instituted several safety measures, Overstrand Libraries are open to members - but with strict provisos and cleaning protocols to prevent the entry and spread of COVID-19 coronavirus in our libraries.

In short, this implies that patrons can once again check out books, but they cannot browse magazines or newspapers at their leisure in the reading room.

Other than following the basic rule: no mask, no access; Overstrand’s libraries will ensure that social distancing is maintained by limiting a patron’s time to 30 minutes. For this reason, no leisurely browsing will be allowed and internet access will be limited to 30-minute slots booked in advance.

Unfortunately, access to the Hermanus and Mt Pleasant Libraries references section have been suspended. The study area for learners has also been closed at the Hermanus Library. The references section at the other libraries are open.

Patrons can be re-assured that Overstrand Municipality remains committed to ensuring that both staff and customers are kept as safe as possible with COVID-19 safety measures in place.

Library staff encourages patrons over 60 to use the library. The library also welcomes children to borrow books again.

Members are also requested to continue to drop the material they borrowed off in sealed bags (clearly displaying their membership details) in the bins/boxes placed at the entrances to the respective libraries.

Material returned in this manner will be “quarantined” until such time as they are deemed fit to return to the shelves.
