New Homes for 150 Beneficiaries in Masakhane
Residents of Masakhane in Gansbaai celebrated when receiving their long-awaited homes.
Dr. Annelie Rabie, Executive Mayor of Overstrand Municipality, Cllr. Lindile Ntsabo, Deputy Executive Mayor and Portfolio Head of Protection Services and Crime Prevention, and Neville Michaels, Director of Protection Services, wish to welcome the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to the Overstrand.
Mayor Rabie welcomed Lt-Col Adriaan Lotriet, SANDF staff officer for operations, and expressed appreciation that an operation to ensure that illegal harvesting of the marine resource does not continue unabated, will be put into effect within the next few days.
For more than 20 years the illegal harvesting has been a serious breach of the safety of many people living along the coastline.
There is consistent pressure on the limited law enforcement capacity of the Overstrand Municipality to “do
something” about the anti-social behaviour that accompanies the illegal harvesting.
“We trust that this stay of the SANDF will bear fruit,” she said.
