A group of local residents is putting together a coffee table book about Betty’s Bay.

The Eco Monitors in the Betty's Bay and Kleinmond areas are working hard to provide residents with information on baboons and waste management.
In a continued effort to become more pro-active when it comes to the sustainability of the baboon management programme in a Biosphere reserve, the Eco Monitors attended a road safety awareness and red flag training session to regulate the flow of traffic recently.
For the practical session, three Eco Monitors took to Clarence Drive in Sunny Seas in Betty’s Bay with their red flags and reflective clothing on 8 November 2022, when baboons decided to crisscross the road, as they do.
Most of the motorists adhered to the monitors red flagging without hesitation; some even turning on their hazard indicators to warn those behind them.
Unfortunately, some motorists recklessly disregarded the warning signage and did not heed the lawful slowing of traffic with wildlife present in and around the road. Those culprits’ registration numbers have been taken and will be recorded and handed to the traffic department for further action.
The most important safety precaution for drivers is to obey the Rules of the Road, road signage and the directions from flagmen.
This will allow for safe sharing and crossing of the roads - be it pedestrians, construction vehicles or baboons.
Slow down and get as far left as possible as you do so and always be on the lookout for animals crossing the road.
