Exterior Paint Colours That Last in the South African Sun

Choosing an exterior paint colour? Think about how it will look in a few summers' time!

The South African sun can take its toll on exterior paint, especially darker and brighter colours.

Wilkoo Marketing Paint Distributors stocks Prominent Paints SA, and their latest article explains why your choice of colour can make a big difference to how long your paintwork looks good.

Here are a few things worth knowing:

- Lighter colours, especially white, are generally more resistant to fading.
- Reds, oranges and yellows tend to lose their colour faster in direct sunlight.
- Darker walls absorb more heat, which can put extra strain on the paint and wall surface.
- Bright colours often need more coats for proper coverage.

A few simple tips: Keep sun-facing walls lighter, use bold colours in more sheltered areas, and always apply the recommended two coats.

Choosing the right paint colour is about more than just appearance. It is also about how well it performs over time.
