Bernhard Bredell has just released his 2023’s under the Scions of Sinai label and the purity of these wines is amazing! All Tasting Notes from Christian Eedes of WineMag:
Scions of Sinai 'Gramadoelas' Grenache Blanc 2023; Klein Karoo WO.
“Grapes from a Klein Karoo vineyard 345km east of Stellenbosch on schist and shale soils. Matured for nine months in older 228- and 400-litre barrels. Floral perfume, peach, sweet citrus and a hint of ginger. The palate is light yet intensely flavourful, zesty acidity playing off against pithy texture. Super-elegant. 93/100.” 1910 bottles.
Scions of Sinai 'Granietsteen' Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2023; Stellenbosch WO.
“Grapes from a vineyard planted in 1978. 80% fermented and matured in concrete egg, 20% in old oak. Citrus, white peach and a touch of lanolin on the nose. The palate is taut – super-dense fruit matched by punchy acidity, a lightly grippy quality to the finish. 94/100.” 2970 bottles.
Scions of Sinai 'Heldervallei' Old Vine Cinsault 2023; Stellenbosch WO.
“Grapes from a vineyard planted in 1988. Partial whole-cluster fermentation. Matured in older 225- and 400-litre barrels. Cranberry, red cherry, rose, fynbos and an intriguing slightly wild, cured meat note. The palate is pure and poised with zesty acidity and fine tannins, the finish super-dry finish. 93/100.” 1790 bottles.
Scions of Sinai 'Féniks' Old Vine Pinotage 2023; Stellenbosch WO.
“Grapes from a vineyard planted in 1976. Vinification as for the Cinsault. Top notes of rose, potpourri and fynbos before plum and black cherry on the nose. The palate is light-bodied with mouth-watering acidity, and firm but fine tannins which lend a pleasant, black-chocolate-like bitterness to the finish. 94/100.” 2060 bottles.
Scions of Sinai 'Swanesang' Syrah 2023; Stellenbosch WO.
“Grapes from vineyard planted between 1996 and 1999 and untrellised, rare for this variety. 90% whole-cluster fermentation before maturation lasting 12 months, 80% in concrete and 20% in old oak. Red and black berries, lily, violet and pepper on the nose. The palate has excellent fruit expression, bright acidity and powdery tannins. Succulent without being sweet or weighty. Wonderfully well-judged, being both seamless and intricate. 96/100.” 2900 bottles.
Scions of Sinai 'Krummelklip' Cabernet Sauvignon 2023; Stellenbosch WO.
“New wine. 15% whole-cluster fermentation before maturation lasting 11 months in older 225-litre barrels. Cranberry, raspberry, cassis and a subtle leafiness on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with good energy and fine tannins, uncompromisingly dry on the finish. 92/100.” 550 bottles.

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in independent specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known local wines and MCC's, we also stock craft gin and beer, imported wines, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
Please note that our website does not show the complete range of wine that we have in stock, so please do contact us if you are looking for something not listed online, especially those that are 'allocation' only.
We offer free delivery in and around Hermanus, and free shipping to major centres around South Africa for orders over R1600. Please contact us for international shipping rates.
