High Street is evolving...

There is some exciting news regarding the Old Town of Hermanus, and High Street in particular. The CBD revitilization project has been on the cards for many years and is currently taking place. We are looking forward to the new look and the energy the pedestrians will bring to our part of Hermanus.

According to the revitalisation project, High Street will be transformed into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly retail street that connects the current ‘anchors’ of Station Square and Woolworths with the proposed Mitchell Square Development. “High Street will be landscaped to create a high-quality pedestrian-priority mall. Traffic circulation within the CBD does not allow for the exclusion of all vehicular traffic from High Street, however there is a lot of scope for transforming the street into a pedestrian-dominated space, while still allowing traffic to pass through,” states the project description."

Chi RIESLING BY JESSICA SAURWEIN

Grape origin: 60% of the blend’s fruit comes from Casey’s Ridge Vineyard, Elgin on loamy and very rocky red slate soils. (Riesling clones WR110F and vineyard was planted 2011.) The other 40% of the blend De Rust Vineyard, Elgin on decomposed Bokkeveld Shale. (Riesling clones 110 & 239 and vineyard was planted 2006.)

Winemaking: Grapes are hand-picked, cooled, then hand-sorted, destemmed and pressed. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, which lasted about 6 weeks until optimal residual sugar balance achieved. The wine was prepared for bottling and bottled after 3 months in tank and released after another 2 months in bottle.

Experience: Fragrant orange blossom, green melon, lime, Yellow stone fruits, piña colada, honeysuckle, flint.

Ideal Cuisine: Salads | cheeses | Asian-style dishes with a bit of spice/sweetness.

Technicalities:

• Residual Sugar: 7,8 g/l.

• Total acidity: 7,0 g/l.

• Alcohol: 12,3%.

• 5900 bottles produced.

About Us

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.

In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, La Trappe Trappist Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty or you are not satisfied with the quality, we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.

Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
