In Stock: Lourens Family Wines
He is such a nice guy, always smiling! Franco Lourens has just released his new vintages and here are his notes...
Another long weekend is coming up, and there are few things worse than running out of wine (or craft beer!) when you are socially-distancing around the table or braai with family and friends. In other words, make sure to pop in to stock up for Easter.
As per the COVID-19 rules after last night's speech, we will still be open every day over the Easter weekend. To clarify, we have an ON/OFF Liquor License (retailers have OFF Con Licenses; pubs/restaurants have ON Con Licenses, and luckily we have both) - the catch is that you can buy wine, but not immediately take it with you. Instead, we will deliver it to your home after we close, so if your plans go awry and you do run short, we will be able to sort you out! Pretty much the same as buying online but with a quicker delivery!
We wish you and yours a Happy Easter, and if you are travelling, please do so safely.
We have teamed up with Gabrielskloof for a real treat this Easter weekend - purchase 3 or more bottles of any Gabrielskloof wine to be entered into a draw to win a tasting for 2 at Gabrielskloof - this includes a lovely platter for two!
TASTING NOTES: This wine is pale straw in colour, the nose displays notes of pineapple, apricot, hints of honey and floral aromas. The palate is well integrated showing flavours of grapefruit and melon. A vibrant acidity balanced by creamy round texture and a lingering aftertaste.
WINEMAKING: Pre-cooled fruit is lightly destemmed and crushed. Light pressing, mainly free run juice used that is settled overnight. Fermentation occurs naturally with wild yeasts in a combination of stainless-steel tank (85%) and (15%) old French oak barrels. The barrels are racked and blended with the tank fermented portion and then bottled. The final blend is made up after 4-6 months of ageing on the lees followed by a light filtration before bottling.

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.
In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty or you are not satisfied with the quality, we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.
Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.
