Better late than never - and never has this been more applicable than to the new Mullineux vintages which were released a while back. We have already had them in stock for a few weeks but with all the other new wines coming along this is the first time they are in our Newsletter!

In addition to the new 2020 Syrah releases, we still have a few of the 2018 and 2019's available - if you need to build a few Mullineux Single Terroir mini-verticals, or replace a bottle you drank by mistake:

• 2018 Granite Syrah
• 2019 Granite Syrah
• 2018 Iron Syrah
• 2019 Iron Syrah
• 2018 Schist Syrah
• 2019 Schist Syrah

Here are Christian Eedes' Tasting Notes for the current releases:

Mullineux Granite Eikelaan Chenin Blanc 2021: More yellow fruit than might usually be expected off this terroir - citrus, yellow peach and spice on the nose while the palate shows good depth, well-integrated acidity and a savoury finish. With an alcohol of 13.5%, this is not without breadth and texture and has layers of flavour. CE’s rating: 95/100.

Mullineux Schist Roundstone Chenin Blanc 2021: Some flinty reduction before pear, white peach and dried herbs on the nose. The palate has good concentration, zippy acidity and a finish that is pithy and slightly bitter in the best way. Really harmonious and focused. Alcohol: 13.5%. CE’s rating: 96/100.

Mullineux Iron Rondomskrik Chenin Blanc 2021: Expressive aromatics of fynbos, potpourri and hay before citrus, peach and apple plus a little struck-match reduction. The palate is tight and detailed - dense fruit and bright acidity before a finish that’s long and dry. Alcohol: 12.5%. CE’s rating: 96/100.

Mullineux Granite Jakkalsfontein Syrah 2020: Arresting aromatics - some smoky reduction before lilies, lavender and fynbos, red and black berries as well as pepper. The palate has great fruit concentration, bright acidity and powdery tannins. Pure and focused with a long, super-dry finish. Alcohol: 13.5%. CE’s rating: 97/100.

Mullineux Schist Roundstone Syrah 2020: Red and black fruit, olive brine, Campari-like citrus and herbs plus white pepper. Rich and broad, the acidity still bright, the texture smooth. Layers of flavour. Alcohol: 13%. CE’s rating: 96/100.

Mullineux Iron Kasteelsig Syrah 2020: Flinty reduction before red and black berries, cured meat and white pepper on the nose. The palate is full but balanced - great depth of fruit, bright acidity and firm but fine tannins. Rich and round upfront but ends dry and nicely grippy. Alcohol: 12.5%. CE’s rating: 96/100.

About Us

Have you ever heard about a great wine but could never find a bottle for yourself (to share with friends, of course)? Well, the team at Wine & Company do all the hard work for you! We visit wine farms and attend tastings to find, taste, and then stock wine from the smaller Estates and independent winemakers who buy grapes and produce outstanding wine under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries. Given that these winemakers make wine in such small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, their wine will never be found on the shelves of the major retailers, but only in specialist shops like Wine & Company on High Street, Hermanus.

In addition to the great selection of well-known wines and MCC's, we also stock local craft gin and beer, French Champagne, Belgian Ales as well as whisky and other spirits. Wine & Company (established in 1998 by Bartho Eksteen) has a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines and we strive to continue this great tradition. If you purchase a bottle of wine from us and it is faulty we will gladly replace the bottle and return the faulty wine to the winemaker.

Feel free to contact Wine & Company if you need a particular wine and we will do our best to source it for you. We are also able to ship wine locally and to most countries so do ask about international shipping.

Thank you for your support - stay safe - see you soon!
