Hangklip - Kleinmond Tourism promotes the coastal stretch that includes the towns of Pringle Bay, Rooi Els, Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond.
From high mountain peaks with fynbos-covered slopes, rough ravines, caves, rivers and streams that stretch to pristine beaches. This indigenous mecca is home to a wide variety of animals, birds and insects.
Hangklip - Kleinmond Tourism proudly presents Pringle Bay, Rooi Els and Hangklip!
Pringle Bay lies between the mouth of the Buffels River and a small peninsula known as The Point. Named after Rear Admiral Thomas Pringle, the Commander-in-Chief of Simons Town Naval Base from 1796 to 1798, the town was originally meant to be a port for shipping farm produce across False Bay to Simons Town. This region was a haven for many army deserters, and an inlet in the northern corner of the bay is still called Drostergat or Deserters Cave. Beautiful sunsets over False Bay and the tranquil isolation of Pringle Bay’s quaint village are two of the main reasons visitors return each year.
Rooi-Els is the first Cape Whale Coast stop on Clarence Drive. Famous for its magnificent views over False Bay. Klein-Hangklip Mountain dominates the village and is home to Verreaux’s eagles, while chacma baboons, rock hyrax, small antelope and African clawless otters also call this landscape home. Perfect swimming, diving and fishing opportunities present themselves for people who love ocean sports and there are various walks and hiking trails for outdoor adventurers. The richness of natural beauty is equalled by its richness in history with evidence of settlements by the Khoikhoi nation still visible and caves in the inaccessible mountain slopes holding stories of the runaway slaves who took refuge in them. During World War II British servicewomen used the hotel buildings at Hangklip as their quarters when they manned a secret radar station from the mountain behind the hotel to keep track of enemy craft.

Hangklip - Kleinmond Tourism proudly presents Betty’s Bay!
With its pristine beaches, fertile lagoons and abundance of fynbos hiking trails is not only home to the Stony Point African Penguin Colony and Harold Porter National Botanical Garden, but also a passionate community who work together to keep their natural environment as pure and unspoilt as possible.
Betty’s Bay was named after Betty Youlden, the daughter of the property developer who, together with Harold Porter and Jack Clarence, bought up farms in the area in the 1930s. Together they formed a consortium that laid out the settlements of Betty’s Bay, Pringle Bay and Rooi Els. Jack Clarence was mainly responsible for replacing the rough footpath between Gordon’s Bay and Rooi Els with a proper road built by Italian prisoners of war during World War II. Today Clarence Drive must be one of the most breathtaking drives in South Africa with its towering mountains on one side, the sparkling ocean on the other and majestic views across False Bay to the Cape Peninsula.Your text here
