The majority of Pringle Bay and Rooi Els business is centred on accommodation for holidaymakers. However, there is a small commercial area in the middle of Pringle Bay that provides all of the day-to-day requirements of the locals, and a little bit extra.
In terms of the entertainment sector of Pringle Bay there are several restaurants and bars. These spots are mostly found in the centre of the village and are frequented by locals and tourists alike. The restaurants range from coffee shops selling delicious treats for lunch and tea time through to family pizza places. The bars provide weekend entertainment with live music acts from time to time. There is also a restaurant and a pub over in Rooi Els that both serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. For bigger functions, some of the restaurants have capacity for people to hire out a room or section of the restaurant. The small commercial centre in Pringle Bay has two shops where people can get most of their grocery shopping done. The village is covered in terms of basic food and drink supplies, as well as items such as household cleaning products. There is also a liquor store in the village centre. If visitors or residents looking for something a bit more on the gourmet side, the local deli is able to supply some delicious food.
In recent years, the village has seen an influx of younger families moving in. This change created the need for a primary school, which opened in 2008. There are several real estate agents operating in the village that manage the few properties available that have yet to be developed, as well as some of the holiday home rentals in the area.
As tourism is such a big element of the commerce in the area, there are a range of tour guides who cater for visitors who wish to go fishing, surfing or kayaking. Holidaymakers can also rent bicycles for their trip and use them to explore the village and surrounding areas.
Other services and businesses in the area include a local book shop, a gym, several massage and spa facilities, cleaning companies and an IT business. There are also several galleries and art studios in and around the village that showcase local talent. Additionally, visitors can buy locally made products from the resident beekeepers and several jewellery designers who live in the area.
There are a few important amenities that can’t be found within Pringle Bay but are close at hand in nearby towns. The nearest petrol station is a short 10km drive away in Betty’s Bay. For medical situations, there is a doctor based in Betty’s Bay and a full medical centre in Kleinmond about 25 minutes away.
The area may be small and is set to stay that way, however, there is actually a wide range of businesses between Pringle Bay and Rooi Els to meet most of your basic needs. Additionally, if locals or visitors are looking for anything more, they can find a larger choice of shops only a short drive away in the town of Kleinmond.
