The Butterfly Centre

Butterfly Centre Newsletter, October 2023

Can you believe we are in the final term of the year? Time really does fly when you are having fun, and besides serious learning, The Butterfly Centre is an incredibly fun place to be.

Music at The Butterfly Centre

We strive to encourage the children to learn through music and this has been very successful with Andrew Herriot, our Board secretary, not only giving music lessons once a week but also entering some of the children in the local talent show, and they did an outstanding job and made us all very proud.

The children are currently, through song, pursuing an epic global journey from Austria (My Favourite Things), to Scotland (Flower of Scotland) to New Orleans (The Saints) to London (Young Ones) and home (Nkosi) even towards space (Dancing in The Moonlight!!!) What a way to embrace our neighbours and planet!

Fun with Maths

We enhance our mathematical skills through engaging activities like Table Cricket, fostering teamwork and a spirit of healthy competition.

Fund Raising

We are constantly looking at ways to generate more income as a large number of our pupils are unable to pay full fees or even greatly reduced fees. We rely heavily on donations.

We are extremely grateful to The Herriots for the twice monthly movie night that has raised R123,250 since 2016 and will continue to do so. A fantastic achievement!

We have a number of upcoming events. The children are very excited about their beach outing! This will take place during this term, just waiting for the weather to calm down!

We will finish the school year with our award ceremony, recognising all the wonderful achievements our children have aspired to during the year. It is heart-warming to see the pride on their faces as they are called up to collect their awards, even though they all do get an award as each child has achieved in one way or another.

Then the highlight: The Christmas Carol concert - I love this! We encourage all our friends and supporters to come along and enjoy this with us. Details of the exact date will be communicated nearer the time. Listen to our children sing beautifully and finish the school year off on a high.
