The Power of Gratitude - How to Start a Gratitude Journal

“Gratitude is simply stopping every now-and-then to appreciate what you already have.”

What Is A Gratitude Journal?

Over the past decade, psychology researchers have identified the many benefits of practising an attitude of gratitude. Regularly journaling about the good things in your life can help prepare and strengthen you to deal with the rough patches when they pop up. This technique is also a powerful reminder of the many abundances we are blessed with.

What Are The Benefits Of A Gratitude Journal?

  • Highlighting the beauty in your life
  • Learning more about yourself and becoming more self-aware
  • Giving yourself a new perspective on what is important to you
  • Lowering your stress levels and helping you feel calmer
  • Reviving your mood when past entries are revisited

Five Easy Steps To Starting A Gratitude Journal

  • Begin with a notebook or gratitude phone app
  • Personalise your notebook or app so that you love the way it looks
  • List three things you are grateful for at the end of each day
  • Be consistent with your chosen journaling time and writing-style-method so you form a habit of gratitude
  • Begin each sentence with, “I am grateful for… “ and then give a reason why you are grateful.

When you’re feeling down, you may find it difficult to think of something you feel grateful for, but look closer - it may be a good friend, the sunshine, a stranger’s kind smile, a good book that you’re reading or even the pen you are writing with - there is always something.

“No Gesture Is Too Small When Done With Gratitude.”
