Consider This Before Getting a Dog

Adopting a dog is a big responsibility, and it’s important to make sure the dog’s needs align with your lifestyle, energy levels, and age.

Here’s what to consider:

• Energy Levels: Some dogs are naturally more energetic due to their breed or age. If they don’t get enough physical or mental stimulation, they may become hard to handle.
• Exercise: Dogs need the right amount of exercise based on their breed. Activities like long walks, hiking, or dog sports can help them burn off energy.
• Mental Stimulation: Puzzle toys and scent games are great ways to keep their minds busy and reduce excess energy.
• Training: Basic obedience training builds a strong foundation and makes it easier for your dog to adjust to your household.
• Understanding Needs: Meeting your dog’s physical, mental, and social needs is crucial for their happiness and health.

Unfortunately, when a dog’s needs aren’t met, they’re often returned to shelters like BARC. This can cause anxiety and even depression for these animals.

Let’s prevent this by carefully considering our ability to provide a loving and suitable home before adopting. Together, we can ensure fewer returns and happier pets!
