BARC Animal Welfare November Newsletter High...
BARC sends warm thanks to every supporter who helped make 2025 a year filled with compassion and wagging tails.
This Mandela Day, turn your time, tools, and heart into something meaningful for the animals at BARC Gansbaai. Whether you spend your 67 minutes walking a dog, building a kennel, fostering a furry friend, or donating supplies, every act of kindness helps make a difference.
BARC Animal Welfare (NPO 187-051) is a registered non-profit serving Gansbaai and surrounding communities like Pearly Beach and Baardskeerdersbos. They rescue, rehabilitate, sterilise, and rehome animals in need while offering veterinary outreach and education. BARC’s facility gives vulnerable animals a second chance, powered by volunteers and community support.
Build Something That Lasts
Get hands-on and help create the things that make a shelter feel like a home:
• Dog Kennels - Build strong, warm, weather-resistant kennels to keep dogs safe and dry.
• Doggie Playgrounds - Construct agility equipment, climbing frames, tunnels or digging areas to give dogs much-needed stimulation.
• Cat Towers and Jungle Gyms - Create climbing structures and hideouts to keep cats playful, curious, and happy.
• Outdoor Cat Shelters - Build insulated kitty houses for cats who can’t be indoors full-time.
• Raised Beds and Rest Areas - Keep animals warm and off the cold floor with easy-to-make raised beds.
• DIY Toys - Repurpose rope, wood, or fabric into chew toys, scratchers, and puzzle feeders.
Not a builder? No problem - BARC can help guide your ideas or pair you with a project that suits your skills.
• Walk the Dogs - Give them exercise, affection, and a break from shelter stress.
• Play and Groom - Brush, cuddle, and spend time bonding with animals who thrive on human interaction.
• Clean and Sort - Help clean kennels, sort through donations, or organise food and medical supplies.
Make the biggest impact of all: give an animal a home.
• Adopt - Open your heart and home to a cat or dog looking for their forever family.
• Foster - Not ready to commit long-term? Offer temporary care for an animal in need. Fostering helps animals adjust to home life and opens space in the shelter for others.
BARC always needs:
• Materials - Wood, paint, fencing, chicken wire, pallets, roofing, blankets, towels, pet beds.
• Food and Essentials - Dog and cat food, collars, leashes, tick and flea treatments, toys, cleaning supplies.
• Tools - If you have tools to donate or lend, even just for the day, they’ll be put to good use.
Monetary donations are also welcome and tax-deductible.
