The beginning of June saw Gamco Services sponsoring the use of two trucks and a crane, and their time, to transport the much-anticipated skateboard ramp from Noordhoek to Dallas Farm just outside Gansbaai.
The half-pipe christened Franken Ramp was donated to the Gansbaai community by an anonymous donor.
The Gamco team joined by the organisers, left Gansbaai early on a Saturday morning and after dismantling the half-pipe in Noordhoek, make the journey home where it was secured in place by late afternoon.
The aim of the skate park is to encourage young people to stay off the streets, take part in healthy activities and make new friends and mentors. Add-ons such as skating lessons are in the pipeline and the more involvement from the community the greater the success of this essential gathering space for our youth.
When it comes to teamwork, Gareth Martinengo and the Gamco team, Jaco Geldenhys, Wayne Reich, Jean-Pierre Groenewald and Riaan Kruger pulled out all the stops to make it happen. Aqunion Romansbaai donated building blocks to balance the ramp and Albert DeWitt of Dallas Farm generously allocated space on his property for the ramp and the children who will be using it. Thank you, thank you, thank you… this is what community is all about!
