Crime Prevention

Crime prevention operations resulted in a reduction in crime.

The ongoing multi-disciplinary high-density crime prevention operations during July 2023 with an emphasis to prevent contact and property crimes had the desired outcome of a reduction in all crime categories.

The focus of the operations was to address the generators of crime and the actions executed included the following:

vehicle checkpoints (VCPs), stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, compliance inspections at licensed liquor premises, confiscations of dangerous weapons, the closing of illegal liquor premises, disruptive searches of drug outlets, drug trafficking, marine resources related crime, stolen property, road traffic safety, enforcement of the immigration act.

A total of 175 persons were arrested on different types of offences of which 62 were for dealing or possession of drugs, 15 for the possession of dangerous weapons, 14 for Marine Resource offences, 10 for illegal dealing in liquor, and 25 wanted persons were also arrested.  The arrested persons already appeared on different dates in the Hermanus and Bredasdorp courts.

The preventative actions resulted in 169 random searches at premises associated with drugs and criminal groupings, and 101 searches at premises associated with the illegal selling of liquor.  121 Vehicle checkpoints were held across the station's entrance and exit routes.  Confiscations and seizures during the operations include drugs, liquor, dangerous weapons, stolen property, abalone and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime.

The Station Commander of the Gansbaai SAPS Lt/Col Coetzee commended the officers for their efforts and commitment to stamping the authority of the state in an endeavour to keep our communities safe and restore the trust of the public.  We will continue working with all the external role-players and the community policing structures to create a safe and secure environment for all.
