This is some news about seeking new weevil species at Grootbos Nature Reserve. Weevil taxonomist, Dr Julien Haran, who describes the first insect new to science for Grootbos, is back to spend time on the reserve. He is accompanied by his colleagues from Montpellier University, Marion and Rémy.
“The group is seeking and describing new weevil species associated with specific fynbos plant species,” said Phil Murray at Grootbos Nature Reserve. “Julien has looked at the Grootbos collection to assist with further identification of our pinned weevils,” Phil said. Grootbos is looking forward to Julien’s next taxonomic revision, into which Rémy will integrate genomics in the species descriptions.
“Might this team of experts discover a new weevil species at Grootbos - we are holding breaths,” Phil concluded.
