SAPS Gansbaai: Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

On Sunday evening 27 August 2023 at about 20h30 members of the Gansbaai SAPS were called out to a motor vehicle accident that happened on the R43 close to the Grootbos turnoff. On scene, the members found an orange colour Mazda pickup that had left the road. According to the driver, he and the four passengers were on their way home from Cape Town when he lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle left the road and overturned.

One of the passengers Melani Plaatjie (38) succumbed on scene due to the severity of his injuries. The other three passengers, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and were after treatment on scene, transported to the Hermanus Provincial Hospital. A case of culpable homicide is under investigation by the Gansbaai SAPS office.
