The Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Fisheries, Minister (Dr) Dion George, visited Gansbaai Harbour on Saturday, September 14, 2024, as part of his tour of the harbours of Kleinbaai, Gansbaai, Hermanus, Hawston, and Kleinmond. This was his first 'Harbour Tour' in the Overstrand. Before the minister arrived at Gansbaai Harbour, Overstrand Executive Mayor Alderlady (Dr) Annalie Rabie informed the fishermen in the harbour about the purpose of the visit. She emphasized the importance of the visit and looked forward to the plans the Minister had in mind. Alderlady Rabie welcomed the Minister on his arrival and introduced him to the fishermen, referring to the environment as the 'Blue Economy Sea.' The Minister explained the purpose of his visits in detail and invited individuals to hand over written documents to him personally. He patiently received each document and promised to pay attention to their inquiries. After the meeting, the minister took a tour of the harbour and was briefed on various aspects. Following the visit, Alderlady Rabie expressed her satisfaction with the turnout and mentioned that the Minister would soon make important announcements regarding the visit.
