Celebrating Academic Excellence: 2024 Matric Results

As the 2024 academic year comes to a close, schools across the Overstrand region are proudly celebrating the outstanding achievements of their matriculants. From exceptional pass rates to impressive distinctions, here is a snapshot of the top-performing schools and learners.

Curro Hermanus

Had 54 matriculants who proudly achieved a 100% IEB pass rate and a 100% tertiary exemption. The overall grade average was 67.34%, with six students earning A-aggregates, twelve obtaining B-aggregates, and twenty-five achieving C-aggregates. Additionally, the school boasted a 96% Bachelor’s Degree pass rate with an impressive average of 1.30 distinctions per candidate. The top achievers from Curro Hermanus include Oscar Knight with six distinctions, Abbi Romburgh with seven distinctions, Kristan Whitehead with five distinctions, Willrich Douwenga and Gaston Ferent each with four distinctions, Khareece Maree and Kelsey Montagu also with four distinctions each, Lisa-Marie van Wyk with two distinctions, Tristan van den Berg with three distinctions, and Kai Newton Johnson with one distinction.

Gansbaai Academia

Had 121 Grade 12 learners, achieving a commendable pass percentage of 90.3%. The top candidate was Blayi Lunathi, who secured an impressive 78% average. Other high achievers include Dayimani Esona, Gosa Sange, and Ngxwashula Sazi, all securing 77%, and Mpayipheli Emihle with 75%. The school excelled in various subjects, earning 18 distinctions in Business Studies, four in English First Additional Language, one in Geography, seven in IsiXhosa Home Language, six in Life Orientation, four in Mathematical Literacy, and four in Tourism. Subjects with a 100% pass rate included Computer Applications Technology, English First Additional Language, Hospitality Studies, IsiXhosa Home Language, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, and Tourism. The learners delivered quality results with 50% earning Bachelor passes, 25.5% Diploma passes, and 14.9% Higher Certificate passes.

Hermanus Hoërskool

Celebrated a 99.4% pass rate with 75.6% of candidates, equating to 136 out of 180 students, achieving a Bachelor’s Degree pass. Thirteen candidates earned A-aggregates and thirty-two obtained B-aggregates, with the class collectively securing an astounding 174 subject distinctions. Exceptional performances included Mila Frates with 99% in both Tourism and Visual Arts, Chloe Kahts with 97% in Afrikaans Eerste Addisionele Taal, Migael Davel with 95% in Engineering Graphics and Design, Heinrich Kok with 96% in the same subject, Angelina Kolb with 97% in German Second Additional Language, Mikayla Krupski with 96% in Tourism, Alessia Lanuti and Hannah Palmer each with 97% in Business Studies, Kayla Lock with 96% in Business Studies, Lara Strydom with 96% in Afrikaans Home Language, Stephani Spanellis with 96% in Afrikaans Eerste Addisionele Taal, and Jana Marais with 95% in Dance. Both Heinrich Kok and Migael Davel achieved distinctions in Advanced Programme Mathematics. A group picture featured Mr. Mike Smuts, the principal, alongside top achievers such as Lara Strydom, Dané van der Bergh, Mikaela Krupski, Mila Frates, Chloe Kahts (the top achiever), Jana Marais, Gemma-Anne Barnard, Angelina Kolb, Migael Davel, Ruth Boyd, Alessia Lanuti, Kayla Lock, with Heinrich Kok being absent.

Hoërskool Overberg

Had 90 matriculants, all of whom passed, achieving a 100% pass rate. The top candidates were Chanté de Bruyn with 86%, Annelie van der Linde with 83.3%, and Dawn Abrahams with 82.2%. Other notable performers included Junade Groenewald with 78.2%, Niketa Brits with 77.5%, Siphenathi Bebeza with 76.75%, Mari du Toit with 75.7%, Danél Coetzee with 75.3%, and Jana Smal also with 75.3%. The school celebrated three A-aggregates and an impressive 61 subject distinctions
