Planning a fishing trip or just want to keep up with the tides?
A drowning occurred on 23 February 2025 at 13:14 at Gansbaai New Harbour. The deceased was a 30-year-old black male, known as Phikisile Tshi Tshi. He went with his friend and brother to the New Harbour for a swim on Sunday, 23 February 2025 at around 13:00.
Whilst the deceased was in the water, the friend noticed that he was experiencing difficulties in the water, and he was screaming for help. He could not swim on his own and his friend immediately jumped into the water, trying to rescue the deceased. Unfortunately, the deceased was too heavy for his friend.
His friend then asked for help from somebody who also was close by. The person immediately jumped into the water and managed to bring the body to shore - unfortunately, it was too late. He was pronounced dead by the Medics of Hermanus. All role players were conducted.
The first drowning occurred a few weeks earlier at the Old Harbour where a man fell overboard from his vesel.
