Agri Western Cape Santam Young Farmer of the Year 2025

Agri Western Cape proudly named Francois Rossouw of Mooigezicht Estates in the Hex River Valley on 11 June 2025 as the Agri Western Cape Santam Young Farmer of the Year 2025. With his deep-rooted commitment to sustainable production, people development and technology-driven management, Francois has distinguished himself as a farmer with vision and determination. He produces table grapes on 310 hectares and is a dynamic young leader who plays a key role in his family's farming operation and the community.

Jannie Strydom, Chief Executive Officer of Agri Western Cape, describes him as: "Francois is the kind of young farmer who offers hope for the future of agriculture in our province. His approach to management - from precision agriculture and technology to people development and community engagement - demonstrates an extraordinary balance between innovation and humanity. He is a worthy ambassador for our province."

Francois' management style is participatory and team-driven. He likes to collaborate rather than simply give orders. His ability to plan strategically under pressure and to lead his team through difficult seasons with motivation and innovation sets him apart. After three consecutive challenging seasons, including hailstorms, he soon adapted and restructured international market strategies - a testament to his resilience and strategic insight. "Francois' integrated management style, ingenuity and focus on people and quality impressed us. He is not only an outstanding producer, but also a leader who empowers his team and serves his community. From soil analysis and automated irrigation to community service and faith-based values - he manages with heart and mind," said Inus Oosthuizen, convenor of the panel.

According to Francois Rossouw, the award is a great honour, but also confirmation of teamwork: "I see this recognition not only as my own achievement, but as a tribute to everyone on the farm who gets their hands dirty every day. Farming is teamwork, and without my team, my family, and God Almighty, I would not be standing here today. I believe that farming is a calling which gives me a reason to continue as a fourth-generation farmer.“
