Gans-Berg News | 5 December 2025 Edition
Here’s a quick look at this week’s highlights, community updates, and important notices happening.
As budgets have been cut throughout the Department of Community Safety Western Cape Government, the Gansbaai CPF executive committee have to find ways to raise funds so that their projects can continue within the community.
CPF Secretary Doulene Els proposed that we have a ‘Blikkie Skud’ to raise funds. At first CPF Chairperson Julia Barlow was not in favour of the suggestion but after much discussion and laughter at a committee meeting, it was agreed to go ahead and Doulene Els would ‘champion’ this fundraiser. She took up the challenge and went ahead with all the arrangements and on Saturday 11 June 2022 the committee were at Gansbaai SuperSpar and at OK Foods with their tins.
CPF Treasurer Riana Groenewald and CPF Chairperson Julia Barlow were at Gansbaai SuperSpar ‘en hulle het die blikkies geskud.’ Sgt Woensdregt Basson - Gansbaai SAPS was the liaison officer and chatted to community members and handed out pamphlets. Riana and Julia were having a friendly competition between each other - this began when Julia was given her 1st R50 note - all honour goes to Riana who received a R100 note. Both had loads of fun and enjoyed the interaction with adults and children.
CPF Secretary Doulene Els, CPF Deputy Chairperson Juan Lewis, CPF Additional member Marieta Rademeyer, CPF PRO Glenda Kitley and Lezelle Els worked 2 shifts at OK Foods. Marieta said that she had loads of fun and the community was very generous. Plenty of laughter as people joked about only having bankcards and couldn’t swipe them. The tellers must have had a fun-time giving everyone change in coins so that they could be placed in the tins.
The community of Gansbaai, Masakhane, Blompark, Pearly Beach, B’Bos, NHWs, business owners, friends, visitors and more were amazing. Twelve tins were filled to capacity and we are looking forward to the counting and will advise the amount that was collected.
Gansbaai CPF committee thanks everyone for their contribution, their generosity, keenness to contribute and be part of the fundraising which is very much appreciated.
Thank you, thank you and thank you.
Julia Barlow
Gansbaai CPF Chairperson
