Gansbaai Courant het heelwat klagtes van padgebruikers ontvang dat die R43-pad tussen Stanford en Gansbaai onveilig is.
Gansbaai Community Farm - Food Security Project, was founded on Friday, 14 October 2016 in Gansbaai.
The Grootbos Foundation project stemmed from a needs analysis conducted in 2013 where it emerged that 75% of Masakhane and Blompark were in fact food insecure. This is reflective of the national average of 25% of children below the age of six are malnourished.
Based on this knowledge, the idea grew to develop a project focusing on assisting and training communities to grow their own food and be more independent.
The big vision is to develop a “green” community where everyone is committed to growing their own food and a big thank you to Burmar Civils and Gansbaai Municipality for contributing a site for the project.
Training started on the 12th of September 2016 with nine students. The second group started on the 26th of September with twenty four students.
After the initial training students are allocated allotments, which they need to farm for three to six months. After this they will be eligible for a home garden set up from the Department of Agriculture. South Africa Breweries (SAB) who have committed and supported with a cheque of R128,928.
The next training session will be in November 2-16.
