The Funky Fynbos Festival will be held between 12 and 14 September 2014 in and around Gansbaai. It will include activities such as mountain bike races and trail runs, fynbos displays, fynbos walks, a fresh water fishing competition, 4x4 routes, horse riding, local arts and crafts, quad biking, artesian food and wine tasting, restaurants and bars, reforestation, forest walks, sustainable fynbos harvesting demonstrations and much more.
The festival’s central hub will be at De Uiljenes. From there, visitors will be able to travel by tractor and horse carts in a circular route to neighbouring farms to experience a different activity or things to see and do. The festival will offer an array of outdoor and indoor activities, both in Gansbaai and on the surrounding fynbos farms.
Live entertainment will be offered at a number of venues, providing something for everyone’s taste in music.
Food and beverages will be available at the venue as well as at all of the usual restaurants and bars in Gansbaai and surrounds.
The objective is family fun and for families to be entertained for the whole weekend. Accommodation to suit all budgets is available in Gansbaai at guest Lodges, B&Bs, backpackers and camp sites, and on various farms and properties outside Gansbaai.
The weekend will encourage visitors to get back in touch with nature – by offering horse rides, forest and fynbos hikes, reforestation and nursery activities, fishing and through a sustainable fynbos harvesting and invasive alien clearing display. It will also feature the best of the region’s produce, from wine tasting at Le Mond to potjiekos competitions. Local artists will also showcase their work.
Gansbaai’s restaurants will also have the best food to offer where you can drive from one restaurant to another to find something different on each menu. This will be called the Funky Foodie Meander.
For the more adventurous, a mountain bike race to suit all skill levels and a trail run are also being offered. A 40km, 30km and 10km mountain bike race will test riders over the fynbos-covered mountains, while a 30km adventure run is in the offing. Sheep shearing and quad biking will also entertain many of the more robust festival-goers.
A festival committee is in the process of finalising the activities and arrangements, and more information will be made available in the coming weeks.
