Aurora Australis G4 Storm Captured in Gansbaai
When you stay up all night, you make it count.
When asked, the soft spoken Hugh-Daniel Grobler matter of factly states that he was manufactured in the Cape and born in Secunda. When he was five years old the Grobler family relocated to Gansbaai and it is here that this photography icon still makes his home.
Hugh-Daniel coyly admits that his main interests, while he was growing up, was rugby, for which he obtained his provincial colours and girls...
It was only after a serious injury on the rugby field that halted a promising sporting career, that he picked up a camera to pass the time while he recuperated. The rest of his story is reflected in his much celebrated photography works which have won awards such as a first placing in Die Burger newspaper’s, Nature Photography Competition in 2014.
A part-time hobby has now become Hugh-Daniel’s passion and he is steadily working toward making this his full-time career. When most people are indoors, this talented photographer can be found outdoors capturing nature and landscape scenes with his Canon 5D MK3. Hugh-Daniel often braves the most savage of Cape storms in the early hours of the morning to immortalize breathtaking lightning shows that visually reverberate over Walker Bay. HD admits to almost been struck by lightning on more than one occasion.
Hugh-Daniel’s masterpieces are sold in digital format or as prints, and you can expect to pay in the region of between R400 to R12,000 to own a Hugh-Daniel Grobler original.
