Hugh-Daniel Grobler Photography is proudly based in Gansbaai, which Hugh-Daniel has called home since the age of five.
Born in Secunda and, as he likes to say, "manufactured in the Cape," he’s become a familiar name in the local art and photography world, although he’d be the last to admit it.
Hugh-Daniel coyly admits that his main interests while growing up were rugby, for which he obtained his provincial colours, and girls. A self-described quiet soul, he never imagined photography would become such a big part of his life.
It all began after a serious rugby injury sidelined a promising sporting career. Armed with a camera to pass the time during recovery, he unknowingly took his first steps toward his creative calling.
His photography journey has already earned him accolades, including first place in Die Burger’s Nature Photography Competition in 2014.
You won’t find Hugh-Daniel behind a desk very often. He’s more likely to be out before dawn, braving Cape storms and chasing lightning across the skies of Walker Bay. His love for raw, untamed nature is reflected in every photograph, whether it’s a wild storm rolling in, a fiery seascape at sunset, or a fleeting moment in the life of a wild animal.
Each image is a tribute to the beauty of the natural world, captured with patience, respect, and the quiet determination of a man who sees what others might miss.
