Recipe: Chocolate Brownies

OK Foods Gansbaai

INGREDIENTS

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 170g unsalted butter
  • 120g castor sugar
  • 2 eggs, whisked
  • 60g cake flour
  • 170g unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 Snickers or Reese chocolate bar
  • A handful of walnuts, roughly chopped

METHOD

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Line a baking tin with baking paper.
  • Put a saucepan, half-filled with water on the stove and bring it up to the boil, then turn down the heat to let it simmer.
  • Break the chocolate into blocks and place it in a glass bowl.
  • Place the bowl over the simmering water and let it melt slowly, stirring often.
  • Once the chocolate has melted, stir in the butter and sugar.
  • When the butter has melted and the sugar’s dissolved into the chocolate. Once combined, remove the bowl from the heat and leave to cool slightly.
  • Next, mix the whisked egg into the chocolate mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, sieve together the flour and baking powder.
  • Gently fold the flour mixture into the chocolate. Chop up the Snickers or Reese chocolate bar, and then stir it into the brownie mixture.
  • Stir through the chopped walnuts and pour the brownie mixture into the baking tin.
  • Pop the tin into the oven and bake for about 15 to 20 minutes. It’s ready to come out of the oven when it’s almost firm.
  • Leave to cool in the tin, then turn it out onto a wire rack.
  • Cut into blocks and serve with a scattering of your favourite berries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream or cream.
