To all our locals and visitors, have some fun with us this holiday season and stand a chance to win fantastic prizes!
The objective of the Overstrand Penguin Campaign is to raise awareness of the plight of the African penguin while creating an interest in the Overstrand’s many attractions. It’s not all black and white for penguins! Some rather colourful penguins have made their home in Gansbaai and other Overstrand towns. Twelve giant penguins that are colourfully decorated by various local artists can be found at sponsored locations in Gansbaai, Stanford, Hermanus and Kleinmond and are waiting for you to visit them!
There are 8 penguins in Gansbaai (including Pearly Beach) and 4 outside of Gansbaai at the tourism offices (Stanford, Kleinmond and Hermanus) as well as La Pentola in Hermanus. To see where exactly the penguins are as well as the story behind each one, read here.
• Grab a penguin passport at the Gansbaai Tourism Office or Gansbaai Library
• Visit as many penguins as you can (minimum 5 penguins)
• Take a photo with each penguin and make sure to use the hashtags #penguinpassport and #name of the penguin you visited
• Tag the business on social media with the location of the penguin
• Take your penguin passport back to the tourism office to get stamped along with the photos that you took
