Pearly2Point Running Challenge organiser Leon Kriel is happy to report that the event took place as planned, and the weather was optimal. After setting up a base camp at Die Dam, four participants started off in Kleinbaai on the first Pearly2Point Running Challenge. The three-day event to the southernmost tip of Africa in LÁgulhas was a fundraiser for Dyer Island Conservation Trust (DICT).

On the first day, Jaco had to pull out after an old injury resurfaced rendering him unable to continue.
On day two the remaining three runners (Craig, George and Leon) continued onwards from Pearly Beach, with the first stop at Buffeljags to refuel. Halfway between Buffeljags and Die Dam, a horrible stretch of thick sand upped the game and runners had to dig deep to make it to camp.
Day three started off looking like it could drizzle but the weather soon cleared up to perfect conditions. This stretch of the challenges was the longest, 35km and the furthest Leon had ever run in his life. Everything went well up to Brandfontein which was the day’s refuelling but after stopping for a quick drink and a sit-down, it took Leon a while to get his legs going again. The stretch from Suiderstrand felt much longer than he hoped but when he saw the lighthouse popping its head over the trees in the distance, he knew they had made it!
All in all, the Pearly2Point Running Challenge managed to raise R8,775.53 for the Dyer Island Conservation Trust. Leon, his co-runners and DICT thank everyone who helped made the event possible.
