We're thrilled to share updates, news, and highlights from The Computer Hut, your local internet service provider.
At The Computer Hut, we are dedicated to empowering businesses and communities in the Overstrand area with reliable, high-speed internet connectivity. As part of our ongoing commitment to service excellence, we are excited to announce several key developments that will significantly enhance our network infrastructure and provide even greater value to our customers. You've asked about our plans to address outages caused by third parties and extreme weather. Read on to learn about the steps we are taking to improve your experience during these events.
In response to current connectivity challenges, from Openserve and weather-related issues, along the Stanford-Caledon route, The Computer Hut is on track, moving and upgrading our alternative route via Swellendam and Worcester to Cape Town. This is to diversify the Openserve nodes to Teraco Rondebosch. Our relationship with Openserve has reached an advanced stage, with all our escalation efforts regarding planning and connectivity. Testing on this new route is currently underway from Gansbaai to Teraco Rondebosch. Once these tests are successful, our customers along this crucial corridor will benefit from improved reliability and resilience.
Gansbaai is at the end of Openserve’s fibre network and we can only diversify the route from Stanford to Cape Town. If the Stanford exchange experiences an outage, our wireless backup connections will immediately come into effect. Historically this section between Gansbaai and Stanford has shown no faults. We have built a diverse fibre route between Stanford and Gansbaai to use the redundant routes to their full capacity. These two diverse routes from Stanford to Cape Town will be upgraded to the same capacity. This will ensure we have ample bandwidth to provide our customers if one circuit fails.
We have received numerous requests from the residents in Baardskeerdersbos that fibre connectivity is essential for the community’s growth and have listened to these requests. We are pleased to share that The Computer Hut has submitted a provincial wayleave application to construct new fibre sections in Baardskeerdersbos and Stanford. The fibre route will also include a circular route to Pearly Beach as a backup line if we encounter any problems on our internal main fibre line between Gansbaai and Pearly Beach. This expansion is a pivotal step towards extending high-speed internet access further into the region, ensuring more businesses and residents can benefit from fast, reliable connectivity to ensure growth and investment opportunities in the Overstrand.
With the new upgrades on the R43 between Gansbaai and Stanford, Computer Hut used the opportunity to install a fibre backbone route alongside the R43 that will connect our main distribution centre to Stanford. The civil part of the project has been completed and we are now busy installing the fibre cables. This project is to provide failover and mitigate network outages. Farms alongside this route will also benefit from the fibre infrastructure.
Our latest initiative, Hutspot.co.za, is a township project designed to bring cost-effective high-speed internet access to the Masakhane community in Gansbaai. While this project progresses through its building phase, clients have already begun connecting to our network. We offer a range of affordable recurring and daily packages starting from as little as R5 per month, making it easier than ever for everyone in the community to stay connected and enjoy seamless internet access. This project will also be expanded to Eloxulweni and the informal settlement side of Stanford soon. https://thecomputerhut.co.za/hutspot/
Recognising that stable connectivity is fundamental for businesses and individuals alike, we are proud to announce significant improvements have been made towards mitigating potential outages within our internal and upstream network infrastructure. We have upgraded our available backup systems during Openserve outages, and have substantially increased capacity while maintaining ongoing continuity during unexpected disruptions. Though connections may be slower during Openserve outages, customers can rest assured that overall capacity has been vastly improved - safeguarding your continued accessibility without compromise. In Teraco Data Centre, we have multiple diverse routes in place with our Juniper router upgrades for our international and Johannesburg traffic from Cape Town.
At The Computer Hut, your satisfaction remains at the forefront of everything we do. We understand how vital consistent and dependable connectivity is for business operations or personal needs. This dedication to our clients drives us to invest in building a resilient infrastructure within small Overstrand communities. In doing so we strive to meet and exceed expectations and match services provided in large cities with unlimited budgets.
