EXPERIENCE OVERBERG magazine was launched in 2013 and seeks to share, invigorate and inspire readers through a host of fresh, charming and entertaining articles, advertorials and stories.

We are passionate storytellers, motivated and inspired by those we meet daily. Random conversations with strangers become shared conversations with readers. The Overberg is the playground of many who pop in for a visit or who decide to stay indefinitely. You will be entertained, inspired and invigorated by stories on all there is to see, taste and experience in the Overberg. From 4x4 stories to mountain biking routes, exploring on foot, festivals and events, reviews on accommodation and restaurants, good food and wine, as well as insights into the wonderful dorpies or villages scattered throughout the Overberg.

In this issue we feature the fruit filled valley of Villiersdorp, a town steeped in history and buzzing with

energy. Be sure to visit the Tractor Museum and pop into Country Classics for a slice of cake.

The Overberg has so much to offer and a trip along the R44 should tick most of those boxes.

If you haven’t been introduced to Parry the stingray yet, then now is the time to head on out to Struisbaai for a one-on-one close up. Visit the Cape Aghulhas lighthouse which is 166 years old

and feel time stand still.

The inaugural Transcape MTB Race weaved its way through the the team Overberg and Jacques Marais, the official race photographer, shares some of the amazing images he captured of the event.

The story behind Oak Valley Estate inspired us to learn more and so Erith Harris set out to uncover this jewel in the Elgin valley.

Every Sunday the faithful unite at one of the many marvellous churches throughout the Overberg.

We include the first part of our exposé on churches in this issue.

It was truly an honour to bump into Rob Lindegger on the R406 as he headed out of Greyton, our

featured Readers Town. He is on a mission to spread the word of the Rotary Club by cycling/ wobbling 24 000 km across Africa. If you see him offer him a cup of tea – I am sure it will be most appreciated and he will love sharing his story with you!
