You’ve given so much - your time, energy, and love - to what felt like a bottomless pit.
There is most likely not a person walking this earth, who has not been hurt. Growing from the lessons that hurt brings is our evolution.
To protect ourselves, we learn over time certain behaviors, which becomes our habits and eventually our personality. The person who reacts in anger, avoidance, or crumbles into a pile of tears are all aspects of protection. They have conditioned themselves to believe that this is the way to stay safe.
When we are in relationships with people, we might find some of their characteristics hard to interpret or work with. The same goes for ourselves. After an event, we might rebuff ourselves for again "messing" up.
Be kind to them and yourself. Understand that it is a very old hurt, the original not even remembered, which has set this in motion. This does not mean they or you are not responsible. It does, however, provide us with the opportunity to be kind, patient, and understanding. That is our lesson in this relationship.
You are none of the limiting labels you live by. Know that you are amazing, beautiful/handsome, courageous, and powerful. What label will you discard today?
