Meet Mike Kemp, a skilled leather craftsman based in De Kelders, Gansbaai.

Shipwrecks and an elusive treasure, John McGregor brings Danger Point Lighthouse to life with his stories!
John knows the lighthouse and the surrounding coastline like the back of his hand. Since 2022, he’s been sharing mystical tales of the HMS Birkenhead, and every fascinating piece of local history that goes with it, with warmth, humour, and passion that’s impossible not to get caught up in.
Despite health challenges, John hasn’t missed a single lighthouse open day. Visitors leave inspired, entertained, and often carrying a story or two of their own. He’s an encyclopaedia of history, a storyteller, and a true local legend.
Inspiration for this story came from a post shared by Alma Le Roux on Facebook. Thank you, Alma. We loved your tribute and felt it was too special not to share, with image credit to you.
