The most well-known celebration on this day is of course the American Independence Day, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776. Other significant events on this very day includes the publishing of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 1856, France offering the Statue of Liberty to the United States in 1886, the Philippines attaining full independence from the United States in 1946, the cornerstone of the Freedom Tower being laid on the site of the World Trade Center in New York City in 2004 and the Statue of Liberty’s crown reopening to the public in 2009 after being closed following the September 11 attacks.
