Mini-Solo Exhibition At Art4Heart: Martha van der Westhuizen

Martha van der Westhuizen is an artist and photographer living in Franskraal, Gansbaai.

Martha matriculated from Jan van Riebeeck High School in Cape Town, then went on to study Graphic Design at the University of Stellenbosch. The artist first started a career as a graphic designer and photographer for an architectural firm in Cape Town. Martha subsequently established her own photographic studio, specialising in architectural, portrait, and fashion photography.

Married life took her abroad for extended periods of time where she explored various art forms, amongst others water colour painting and traditional French framing. For many years she continued with picture framing from home.

Back in South Africa, Martha attended art classes and from 2000 focussed mainly on working in acrylics, preferring still life studies in a combination of abstract and realism. Throughout all her meanderings, photography remained a great passion and forms an important part of her artistic expression, covering various subjects ranging from portrait to macro, to landscape photography.

Franskraal has been Martha's holiday destination since the early sixties when her parents built a small Elgin Timber weekend bungalow. After several years of commuting between Pretoria and Franskraal, Martha and her husband finally renovated the bungalow to suit their needs and settled in Franskraal nearly a decade ago.

Mini-Solo Exhibition At Art4Heart

Art4Heart will host a mini-solo exhibition showcasing Martha’s work from the 24th to the 28th of July, 2023.
